PARKERVILLE, STONEVILLE AND MT HELENA BUSH FIRE REVIEW

PUBLIC CONSULTATION OPEN NOW

As requested by the Minister for Emergency Services, the State Emergency Management Committee (SEMC) has launched a review of the Parkerville Fire which occurred on 12 January 2014.

The purpose of this review is to examine the fire, its behaviour, the response by agencies and recovery activities. It will also take into account the effectiveness of State policies and procedures and how the response, the recovery and the policies, procedures and preparedness strategies currently in place worked and recommend any improvements.

The Steering Committee, which will oversee the review, is led by the independent Chair of the SEMC, the Director General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and the Commissioner of Fire and Emergency Services. They have met and agreed on the Terms of Reference (ToR).

An interagency review team has been established to conduct the Review. The team will organise a range of community consultation processes including meetings with interested parties, receive written submissions and conduct interviews. The team is being assisted in the review by external experts in the various areas to be covered by the Review.

The report will be considered by the SEMC in June 2014. The final report will be provided by the SEMC to the Minister for Emergency Services.

Updates on the review progress will be provided in April and May 2014 and available on the SEMC website (www.semc.wa.gov.au).
